Prepared for Tennessee Water and Fire

Google Ads that find the problems before you do.

Tennessee Water and Fire already has the reviews, the close rate and the demand. Google is learning from the wrong signals, so water damage, your core service, gets the fewest clicks. Our plan sets up proper in-account conversion tracking first, then moves budget toward the water and fire jobs that pay.

"I'm finding problems with our Google Ads before they find them, and that's their job."Chris Parks, Marketing Manager, Oct 15
  • Local Services Ads bring 3 to 5 leads a week, and few of them convert.
  • The website was just rebuilt, and it's still being finished.
  • You're spread thin, and you run Knoxville's ads yourself.

How the work pays. Water first.

Water damageYour bread and butter. The most consistent work, and it pays well.
FireThe most profitable job, but far fewer of them and a lot of work.
MoldLots of people search for it in Middle Tennessee. Not as profitable.

What you want. Less headache, more of the right leads.

NextWhat We FoundFour things, in plain terms

What We Found

Four things from your Google Ads account and website. Open any one for the detail.

1Google has been counting the wrong things. So it bid on them.

Blood Work
522
Phone-link taps Google counted as leads, Aug 17 to Sep 27
About 60 to 80
Google leads in those six weeks, by your count

Bidding learns from what it's told is a lead. It was told taps, not calls.

See the detail
  • Through September 24, the main goal was a tap on the phone number anywhere on the site. A tap counts even if no call follows.
  • Your retargeting campaign was credited with 500 of the account's 613 conversions from Aug 17 to Oct 20, on $1,139 of spend.
  • The account holds 30 conversion goals. Several count as leads but aren't: map directions, store visits and YouTube follows.
  • One goal, named in Vietnamese, looks like it came from this summer's security issue, along with about 70 campaigns that have since been removed.

2Since late September, Google can't see your website leads.

Blood Work
113 to 121
Conversions a week Google counted, Sep 7 to 20
5 to 11
A week, Sep 28 to Oct 18: only calls placed from the ad itself

New sites often launch without the ad tags. The rebuilt site doesn't carry the Google Ads tag yet.

See the detail
  • Website conversions stopped recording around September 24. Forms and website calls go uncounted.
  • Your tag manager is installed but empty, and analytics records page views, not leads.
  • The site shows one phone number, so a call from someone who clicked an ad can't be tied back to the ad.
  • The good news: Google's click ID is still captured, so proper tracking has something to build on.

3Water damage costs more per click and gets the fewest.

Nov to Feb
$12 to $15
Mar to May
$64 to $75
Aug to Sep
$108 to $113
Oct 12 to 20
About $146

Average cost per click, water damage campaign. In September, water bought 32 clicks for $3,461. Mold bought 117 for $2,006.

See the detail
  • Every Search campaign uses automated bidding with no cost target, so bids climb when the signal is weak.
  • The jump started in March. The account's change history will show what changed then.
  • The result: your core service gets about one click a day, while the lower margin service gets more than three times the clicks.

4Searches for your own name cost about $20 a click.

The 4 Conversion Intent Buckets
$3,077
Spent on searches for your name, Aug 17 to Oct 20
$1,404
Of that inside the water and fire campaigns

Your name should be your cheapest click, in its own campaign. Cut it once, then move the money to water and fire.

See the detail
  • "Tennessee water and fire reviews" cost $727 for 14 clicks in the water campaign.
  • The brand campaign also expanded into other searches, including $333 on competitor names like Servpro, PuroClean and RestoPros.
  • The mold campaign pays for research searches like "how to get rid of black mold" and "independent mold inspector."

Our Plan

Count the right leads first, then put the budget behind the jobs that pay.

Every Google lead is worth about $2,295 to you.

About $150 to $200
What a Google lead costs today: September spend over your weekly lead count
$2,295
What it brings in: 85% book, 60% close, $4,500 a job

Each extra Google lead a week adds about $9,900 a month in revenue. Revenue, not profit: your margin by service line sets what we can pay for a lead.

Our plan. Count right, then grow.

1Count real leadsProper in-account conversion tracking for calls from ads, website calls and form fills. Goals cleaned down to real leads.
2Rebuild by serviceWater, fire, mold and your brand each get their own campaign, budget and bids. Wasted searches cut.
3Fund water and fireBudget follows job value. The searches that bring jobs at the right cost get their own budget.

Google management is $2,000 a month or 10% of ad spend, whichever is greater. At about $8,500 in spend, that's the $2,000. Ad spend is paid to Google directly, and the plan is built around your current level.

Straight talk: the fee is close to a quarter of your spend. That's the cost of running it properly, and in line with the couple thousand a month you mentioned paying for management today.
